Unifi - my personal experience

Unifi - one of High Speed Broadband (HSBB) product served by Telekom Malaysia (TM)
For normal residential customer like me, the VIP5 serving 5Mb/s upload & download is enough but actually had a capping quota of 60Gb per month for only RM149/month.

I've been a Unifi customer almost 2 months since 3rd Oct 2011. My personal experience; I totally wasted the 1 month promo of free viewing of Premium channels because most of the Video On Demand (VOD) said to be free were priced from RM3 to RM15 for packages. So, I'm confused there. Besides, the installer did not teach us on how to view the VOD. So to avoid from paying for trying, better avoid it.

The channels, not as variety as ASTRO and not as inviting/interesting as ASTRO. So, I still have to continue my subscription with ASTRO. The IPTV lacks content. We only view via IPTV when it rains heavily & our ASTRO beyond do not have any signals. But we're forced only to view free channels i.e. RTM1, RTM2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV and TV9. The rest all in foreign language, boring documentaries & news channels. So, TM need to improve on the content. Since ASTRO is getting prouder by the day, this may be the only surviving competitor to ASTRO. MiTV had died a long time ago. What happened to their channels?
The broadband is okay. Fast. It seems that my Notebook is the slower one.

Later I'll continue with my review on Unifi.
Only my 2cents opinion.

On Bigger Bandwidth ... UNIFI and more

Today, 03-OCT-2011 the Unifi installer came and complete the installation of the TM's HSBB product; Unifi.
They completed it within 1 hour time. Erected the single core fiber from existing Distribution Point (DP) at the back of my home going through the single bedroom to the living room.

I subscribed to 5MB/s and had ordered the existing 1Mb/s Streamyx to be shifted to my parent-in-law's home. I've done a speedometer comparison between Unifi & Streamyx just for fun.

on 01 OCT 2011, tested the 1MB/s Streamyx

on 03 OCT 2011, tested the 5MB/s Unifi (newly installed)

Today, officially I'm a Unifi subscriber. One of almost 160,000 subscribers in Malaysia. The surfing was 5 times faster than before. We're evaluating to reduce ASTRO's channel subscription to minimize cost since Unifi also came with IPTV & Video On Demand (VOD). You can view life streaming of YouTube without the streaming or lagging or buffering. And can also browse Facebook directly on the TV.

Alhamdulillah, back in the office, I've won a 'Name a Portal' contest. It's a knowledge & info sharing portal and I named it 'i-Share'. I didn't know what the prize is and did not expect anything expensive or fancy.

On sport, we've got RM250 allocation each to buy ourselves a new pair of Futsal shoes. I've targeted to buy two; one for court sole and another for turf sole but luckily I've found a ADIDAS Salacetto which has a hybrid sole (can use on court & turf) prized at RM250 for the Yellow colored and RM219 for the Red  colored one. But I need to survey at other outlets to get a better prize.

UPSR 2011 ... Hassan pulak ...

Hari ini hari kedua Muhammad Salahuddin bin Hamzah a.k.a Hassan menduduki peperiksaan UPSR ... esok hari terakhir ...
Aku ambil cuti 3 hari, Mamanya ambil cuti separuh hari 2 hari & esok full-day ...
Harapanku & isteri, moga Hassan juga bakal menempa sejarah manis seperti abangnya Muhammad Hisyamuddin ... selang seminggu, 26-29 Sep 2011 Hassan bakal menduduki peperiksaan PSRA sekolah agamanya pula.

(tapi stok habis pulak, kena Queue) ...

Streamyx kat rumah nak pindah ke rumah Mertua ... tapi rasanya downgrade ke 512kb/s je lah ... mana larat nak bayar banyak2 siap dengan ASTRO lagi ...
